Mary Gaitskill’s collection of essays, Somebody with a Little Hammer, explores prismatic perspectives on rich topics, including literature. She discuss the wide spectrum of response possible to literary works, and literature’s capability to examine worst case scenarios, braid opposites, and accept the unacceptable. Gaitskill says a depth of feeling can allow polarized points of view to find a connection.
