Executive Chef Shigefumi Tachibe, the inventor of tuna tartare way back in 1984, has partnered his Chaya Restaurants with Careers through Culinary Arts Programs (C-CAP) to host a “Top Tuna Tuna Tartare Chef” competition for 15 students from 3 LAUSD high schools. The event will take place on January 13 at Chaya Downtown and the winner’s creation will be featured on the restaurant’s menu for the remainder of the month. It’s a very exciting opportunity for students at underserved high schools that hope to pursue a culinary career. I’ve worked with C-Cap before and they are a great organization.
