We spend hours communing over tables laden with food. We read about the latest farm to table hotspot. Get our dialing fingers ready for that coveted reservation to the ur-PopUp and scroll through OpenTable to decide which talented chef-owner is going to get our dollars next Friday night. Our cups runneth over. So don’t you think it’s time to tithe some time for those whose cups are empty and whose plates are drear?

Saturday March 31st is Good Food Day in LA. Does that mean your favorite radio show is taking over the city? Nope. Our city’s illustrious Food Policy Council (LAFPC) shares the Good Food moniker. Each year the mayor’s office designates a day to highlight volunteer service in the city. This year the date coincides with Cesar Chavez Day and is the perfect opportunity to remind us of food/garden centered service activities.

Use Good Food Day LA to learn a little about food justice issues in your community and commit to give some back.

Nearly forty event sites, bringing together thousands of volunteers and participants, will be engaged in activities around the city. Volunteer opportunities will include garden plantings and cooking demonstrations, neighborhood cooking competitions, CalFresh (food stamp) sign-ups at farmers’ markets, and food policy trainings and education. Several project sites will also be hosting Good Food fairs open to the general public. Click on the Google Map of Activities above and discover what you’d like to do.
