Jonathan Gold Goes Bananas for Cream Pie

In advance of this year’s 7th Annual Good Food Pie Contest, we thought we’d help out some of our bakers who might be stumped for ideas by going straight to the source and asking Jonathan what his favorite pie category is.

One Jonathan Gold special coming up: Pie ‘n Burger’s made-to order Butterscotch Cream Pie.

Jonathan Gold is the Pulitzer Prize-winning food writer for the L.A. Times and a returning judge for KCRW’s 7th Annual Good Food Pie Contest this year on Sunday, October 4.

We thought we’d help out some of our bakers who might be stumped for ideas this year by going straight to the source and asking Jonathan what his favorite pie category is. Does the answer “cream pie” surprise you? Listen as L.A.’s favorite food critic dishes out on Pie ‘n Burger’s special order Butterscotch Cream Pies, which he describes as being “one of the Lord’s great creations.”

What to order: Find out why Pie ‘n Burger’s Butterscotch Cream Pie has won Jonathan’s heart.

Where it is: 913 East California Boulevard, Pasadena, CA 91106 (626-795-1123)

Pro-tip: Order the Butterscotch Cream Pie in advance because it normally comes topped with meringue instead. Tell them Jonathan Gold sent you!

The deadline to enter this year’s Good Food Pie Contest is Sunday, September 27 at 11:55 PM. Click here to check out the categories and enter your pie.
