    Jonathan Gold is the Pulitzer Prize winning food writer for the Los Angeles Times. This week he reviews Maccheroni Republic, one of the many new restaurants to arrive in downtown.

    He recommends the polpettine di gamberi, fried calamari, nduja, violleta di melanzane, agnolotti stuffed with osso buco, lasagne with meat sauce, potato gnocchi with mushrooms, and linguine al frutti de mare.
