Black Restaurant Week in LA starts this Friday and runs through August 16. The event first started four years ago in Houston, Texas. This year, nine cities nationwide are participating.

How it works: Customers go to Black Restaurant Week’s website, select whichever restaurants and meals they want, then choose delivery or pickup.

LA restaurants involved:

Wood Urban Kitchen in Inglewood - Mona Holmes says this is probably her favorite restaurant to go to right now. They serve ribs, rib tips, mac and cheese, and giant smoked turkey legs.

My Father's Barbecue in Carson - Holmes says she really likes the sear on their ribs, and they have a great smoked salmon sandwich.

Memphis Grill in North Hollywood - This Memphis-style BBQ restaurant opened in April, and it’s using GoFundMe to help offset expenses during the pandemic.

The Vtree in Hollywood - Opened since April, this restaurant has a completely vegan soul food menu.

ABeautifulLife in downtown - This restaurant serves Jamaican food, right on the corner of Spring and 2nd St.

Simply Wholesome near Ladera Heights - This is one of the oldest Black-owned restaurants. “It’s been there for 36 years. They show no sign of slowing down. My personal favorite is their blackened fish platter with … macaroni pie, peas and rice, and potato salad,” says Mona Holmes.
