Immigrants using public benefits may be denied citizenship

Starting this week, immigrants who rely on public benefits -- like Medicare, food stamps or public housing -- could be denied a path to permanent residency and ultimately citizenship.

A divided U.S. Supreme Court sided with the Trump administration in January, allowing it to put into place what some are calling a “wealth test” for immigrants, forcing them to prove that they are self-sufficient.
