Rupert Parkes is a pioneering force in electronic music. Achieving both critical and commercial success over the last two decades, he remains an elusive figure with an ever-changing sound. I remember first meeting him in the mid-'90s, and at the time he had an outspoken interest in martial arts as well as high performance automobiles. His music seemed the perfect calculus of these interests - an incredibly meticulous brand of Drum & Bass with rapid fire snares and bone-rattling basslines. Almost inadvertently, Photek has had #1 singles on the dance charts as well as multiple Grammy nominations, and his latest album Ku:Palm shows a further evolution in style and tempo. I sat down with Photek recently for our Electrospective interview, and we talked about his early inspirations and direction moving forward.
