Americana artist Leyla McCalla (Carolina Chocolate Drops) returns with the searing solo single “Tree,” a layered and complex sonic story with a deliciously raw twist ending. Hear it for yourself in today’s MBE, ahead of McCalla’s recently announced LP Sun Without the Heat (due April 12 via Anti). Plus, a George Michael classic that was the number one single of the year in 1988 and maybe the best song of 2024 (so far).
