MBE Nov. 15: Grammy nominations, new strongboi single

Happy sunny Tuesday, LA. Big day here for artists and music lovers alike, as the 2023 Grammy nominations have arrived. Before we dive in, let’s check out “cold” by strongboi, the new Berlin-based duo of Ziv Yamin and Alice Phoebe Lou. Discerning ears will notice the many similarities to the Bootsy song “Munchies for Your Love” — key, tempo, and subject matter relate for a 2022-meets-1977 jam.

As for those Grammys: Lots of favorites, expected and unexpected, recieved some shine. We love to see it. In their honor, enjoy an entire dance electronic album set with respective nominees Odesza, Rufus Du Sol, Kaytranada (feat H.E.R.), Bonobo, and Beyonce (duh). Best New Artist noms include Wet Leg, Omar Apollo, and Domi & JD Beck. Fun fact: Wet Leg shredded so hard during sound check in Anne's Backyard that the cops were called and shut down the show. Kendrick Lamar did SoCal proud with eight Grammy nods, so we gotta play “Mother I Sober,” featuring Beth Gibbons of Portishead. You’ll also hear “Little Piano Thing” by Louis Cole, which was nominated for Best Arrangement, Instruments and Vocals. Who do you think should win, and who will win?
