Reinstating affirmative action could be on the November ballot in California. The UC Board of Regents recently voted unanimously to back a measure on the ballot that would overturn Prop 209, which voters approved in 1996.

The UC Board of Regents recently voted unanimously to back a measure on the ballot that would overturn Prop 209, which voters approved in 1996. Prop 209 is a constitutional amendment that says no one shall be granted preferential treatment based on race, sex, color, or national origin.
A new amendment, ACA 5, would repeal parts of Prop 209. It recently passed in the State Assembly and is headed for a vote in the State Senate.
