    California banned affirmative action in the 90s, voters might reinstate it in the fall

    Reinstating affirmative action could be on the November ballot in California. The UC Board of Regents recently voted unanimously to back a measure on the ballot that would overturn Prop 209, which voters approved in 1996.

    Reinstating affirmative action could be on the November ballot in California. The UC Board of Regents recently voted unanimously to back a measure on the ballot that would overturn Prop 209, which voters approved in 1996. Prop 209 is a constitutional amendment that says no one shall be granted preferential treatment based on race, sex, color, or national origin.

    A new amendment, ACA 5, would repeal parts of Prop 209. It recently passed in the State Assembly and is headed for a vote in the State Senate.
