Many counties oppose Gov. Newsom’s plan to let Blue Shield run California’s COVID vaccine program

In January, Governor Gavin Newsom announced big plans to have Blue Shield of California oversee the state’s vaccination program by the end of March. The hope was that the insurance giant could streamline the process and get shots into arms more quickly.

But so far, not a single county has signed an agreement with Blue Shield. And many of them, including Los Angeles, say they want to opt out of using Blue Shield.
