COVID-19 hot spots erupt in farm belt states, where governors say lockdowns aren’t needed

While President Trump tries to rally support for plans to reopen the government next month, some of the states he points to as success stories are seeing a spike in cases.

They include Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Nebraska. None of these currently have statewide stay-at-home orders. The disease could be deadlier there because rural states have fewer doctors and hospitals, and many people don’t have easy access to health care.
