How Starbucks shaped American coffee culture
Howard Schultz recently announced that he’ll step down as CEO of Starbucks in 2017. The very first Starbucks opened in Seattle in 1971, back when Maxwell House was the height of coffee couture. There are now more than 12,000 locations in the U.S. alone, and a robust coffee culture that many credit to the rise of Starbucks.
