Planned Parenthood, and Toronto International Film Festival

SWAT teams were first created here in Los Angeles after the 1965 Watts riots. Since then, the use of SWAT teams has increased across the country. And the 40th Toronto International Film Festival wraps up this weekend. What began in 1976 showing films from other festivals has become one of the world’s biggest and most important film festivals.

The House voted today to freeze funding to Planned Parenthood for a year while they investigate the women’s health organization. When it comes to abortion, why is it so hard for Americans to find common ground? And how did abortion become the hot-button issue that never seems to cool down?

Then, SWAT teams were first created here in Los Angeles after the 1965 Watts riots. Since then, the use of SWAT teams has increased across the country. The so-called “militarization” of the police became controversial after we saw scenes of officers in armored vehicles facing down protesters in Ferguson, Missouri last year.

Finally, the 40th Toronto International Film Festival wraps up this weekend. What began in 1976 has become one of the world’s biggest and most important film festivals marketplaces.
