During the last days of the book tour for his novel Infinite Jest, writer David Foster Wallace was joined by a reporter named David Lipsky. Lipsky was a writer himself. He’d just published his own novel, and Rolling Stone sent him to interview Wallace for a feature story—the first author interview ever for the magazine.
