Immersion

Immersion (Colin Newman and Malka Spigel) are our Resident DJs for October 2026.

About Immersion

KCRW’s Resident DJ is a sonic laboratory where artists are invited to reinvent, reimagine, and lean into their most eclectic, creative impulses. Expect big swings unfettered by genre, format, or any of the other structures typically associated with a club mix… and not just from established DJs — musicians, creators, and organizations from the farthest reaches of the cultural landscape will be stepping up to the decks. Each month, a new Resident DJ takes over and curates fresh hour-long mixes every Thursday night just for KCRW.

Resident DJ airs new episodes every Thursday night from 10p-11p, immediately followed by an encore of a previous episode from 11p-Midnight. They can be streamed anytime on the KCRW app.

Immersion are Malka Spigel and Colin Newman, best known for their work with the groundbreaking post-punk bands Minimal Compact and Wire, respectively. The project emerged in the early 1990s and has always prided itself on a diversity in approach and an ability to be both self-contained and a vehicle for collaboration. They've worked with the likes of Tarwater, Laetitia Sadier, Ulrich Schnauss, Scanner, Thor Harris, and more. Their latest album, "What Is Lost Will Return," was released on September 4, 2026. The couple also hosts a weekly radio show called Swimming In Sound, under the guise of which they now serve as KCRW's Resident DJs for October 2026.
