Savoring a meal all by yourself comes with its unique joys. Of course, solo diners have always been a part of European cafe culture, and even some famous French artists have attempted to depict the beauty and mystery of a women eating alone.

Take “The Cafe” by Fernand Lungren, which shows famous french stage actress, Sarah Bernhardt, delicately poised at a cafe table in an elaborate dress - alone. Ninette Paloma found inspiration in that painting. She now makes table-for-one eating a regular part of her Santa Barbara restaurant routine.
