Brazilian Director Anna Muylaert Finds Success, then Sexism

Filmmaker Anna Muylaert has won acclaim at home and abroad for The Second Mother, which is Brazil's Oscar entry this year. But even with all the success, Muylaert's found that she's still not taken seriously within an industry dominated by men.

Anna Muylaert's film The Second Mother is Brazil's official Oscar entry for best foreign-language picture. The movie about a maid won awards at Sundance and Berlin, but Muylaert said when it came to making deals, no one wanted to work with a woman. She tells us about the unexpected struggles that have come with the film's success and the experience of directing the famous Regina Casé, Brazil's answer to Oprah Winfrey.
