Zach Braff's Kickstarter

When actor-filmmaker Zach Braff launched a Kickstarter project to fund his new movie, Wish I Was Here, he got a big reaction...for and against it. He talks with Kim about why he turned to crowd-funding to mobilize his massive fans on social networks like Twitter and Facebook. He lays out the many attempts he's made to get films off the ground since Garden State and how traditional film financiers placed too many conditions on their involvement (they'd want say over casting and final cut). Braff defends his use of Kickstarter by stressing that he himself has contributed to Kickstarter campaigns and to the charitable crowd-funding site Kiva.org. Still, he engages with his critics who say he should use his own money and connections and not tap the resources of fans.
