    Fashion Week dates back to 1941, when the International Ladies' Garment Workers Union asked journalists to visit designer showrooms. Since then, it's become an international extravaganza that virtually takes over Manhattan. But it's become so big, so full of celebrities and the hoi polloi that even the industry itself is saying it's time to go on a diet.
