I’ve missed hanging out with you on a Monday night. Hope you’ve been well…Hope you’ve been keeping healthy, and sane…My last show was early March and A LOT has happened and has been happening since…As they say…Times, they are a changin’…

Well, to reflect on this important moment in time, I put together this mix of songs that most resonated with me…They are mostly new because, to be honest, I’ve been so eager to play you all the new stuff. As some of you know, I’ve been playing a lot of older music during my Monday Nights IG Live series…I’ve been digging into my old house and drum’n’bass vinyl crates, and truth be told, I’ve been having a lot of fun reconnecting with the past…But I thought for the purpose of this show, I wanted to explore mainly all the new stuff - stuff I haven’t been able to play since I haven’t been on the air.

I chose songs that speak to the heart of the matter. Not only are we all dealing with the devastating social and economic fallout of the pandemic, we are also in the midst of the 2ndCivil Rights Movement, and I’d be amiss if I didn’t explore this in music. These songs are about struggle, survival, fear, love, acceptance, hope, sorrow, death, longing…lust… Songs about life, really.

Please stay in touch. You can email me at valida@kcrw.org, or you can check in with me on Instagram – that’s where I am most active. Let me know which songs speak to you the most. I would love to hear from you.

Hope these songs give you hope, healing, and offer a moment of comfort and reflection.

Please come back next week to hear the new show.

    Love, Valida
