Laura’s Law was passed 12 years ago, named for a 19-year-old mental health worker shot by a patient in Nevada County. The core provision allows family members, treatment providers and law enforcement to seek court orders ordering mentally ill people to undergo treatment.

The core provision allows family members, treatment providers and law enforcement to seek court orders ordering mentally ill people to undergo treatment. So far, Nevada, Orange and San Francisco are the only counties to implement it. Tomorrow, the LA Supervisors may take a vote on adopting it here.
