Highway 1 Washed Out North of Big Sur
Highway 1 has been closed to traffic between Carmel and the Big Sur. About 40 feet of the two-lane highway washed out near Rocky Creek Bridge just after five yesterday afternoon and continued sliding until as late as 6:30. Susana Cruz handles public affairs for Caltrans District 5.
