Is It Legal to Force Sterling to Sell the Clippers?

NBA President Adam Silver has said he wants owners to force Donald Sterling to sell the Los Angeles Clippers, as part of its life-time ban on Sterling for making racist remarks during a recorded conversation. But Sterling could take the league to court for breach of contract.

NBA President Adam Silver has said he wants owners to force Donald Sterling to sell the Los Angeles Clippers, as part of its life-time ban on Sterling for making racist remarks during a recorded conversation. But Sterling could take the league to court for breach of contract. Could a court find that the NBA's charge of racism comes under the heading of an "arbitrary and capricious reason" and amounts to a breach of contract? David Wharton is a sports writer for the Los Angeles Times.
