Is It Time to Restore Affirmative Action for California Higher Ed?
A proposed State Senate amendment to restore affirmative action was tabled in the Assembly when Asian Senators, pressured by constituents, said they'd made a mistake.

Since it went into effect, the percentage of blacks and Latinos has declined at the University of California. But the percentage of Asians — especially Chinese -- has increased. This year, Democratic State Senator Ed Hernandez proposed a constitutional amendment to restore affirmative action, but it was tabled in the Assembly when Asian Senators — under heavy pressure from their constituents — said they made a mistake. The debate is not going away.
