Andreya Triana: Artist You Should Know

Have you ever had a reoccurring dream? Well I have. It goes a little something like this, “Mom, meet Andreya, my future wife” Silly I know, but once you’ve heard this young Brighton songwriter sing, you’ll understand.

Andreya Triana has quickly developed a loyal following over the past few years after being featured on tracks by Aaron Jerome and Bonobo. She became legendary in the underground scene after being featured on “Tea Leaf Dancers” by Flying Lotus.

Andreya’s attraction is rooted in her unique ability to combine power and grace. When you first hear her sing, you might think she restrains from revealing her entire vocal range but, after a careful listen, you realize that’s not the case at all. In fact, Andreya’s voice has the capacity to sustain the vocal presence of two. As she sings, you hear another level, another source of power, another feeling of warmth…another presence, it sits just right underneath the surface level of her voice. You can certainly hear it, but you feel it even more. The most impressive aspect about this gift is her consistency in doing so, no matter the key.

You’ll have this rare experience while listening to her debut album “Lost Where I Belong” on Ninja Tune. I’ve been absolutely obsessed with this record since I got it. It’s currently available in Europe and will be released stateside on September 7. Flying Lotus remixed the title track which is available as a free download on her site and streaming below.

The songs “Darker Than Blue“, “Daydreamers” and “Something In the Silence” are other standouts –all exemplify Andreya’s ability to command your ear, while maintaining a level of delicacy and seduction. Hence, the future Mrs. Byrd.
