A few months ago, my friend Gil Castelum of Cosmica Records sent me a new signing. A young woman from Tecate, Baja California that he thought I should hear.

Well, after just one listen, I became an instant fan. Carla Morrison’s music is subtle, sweet and out of the ordinary when it comes to Latin Alternative music. A singer and songwriter, her youthful sound and delivery are full of love and heartbreak. Take a listen to “Una Salida,” DJ Raul Campos’ favorite.

Her full length “Mientras Tu Dormias” (While You Were Sleeping) is finally out today and, truth be told, I like to drive around town singing it at the top of my lungs. I’m not alone because, the last three times I’ve dropped my car off at a valet, I’ve been asked what was playing on the stereo when they return!

L.A. will be treated to a special performance this weekend, when Carla returns to LA to play as part of the Dia De Los Muertos festivities at Hollywood Forever Cemetery.

Also, sign up forToday’s Top Tune now because we’ll be featuring a track from Carla in mid-November. With TTT, you get a free song download every weekday from both new up and coming bands and core KCRW artists.
