I’ve been pretty much obsessed with the song “You Were Never There” for the last two weeks. It’s from Diego Garcia, who used to front NY-based garage rockers Elefant. Knowing that band, I would’ve never guessed he had this album of gorgeous, 70’s-inspired tracks with lush strings and Spanish guitars in him. The album, called “Laura,” is a dedication to his wife. Diego has said he made the record to heal his heart — ” In other words, I had to get my girl back.”

This song is most definitely my favorite, but you can hear the entire album streaming as part of our Album Preview series, with a great write up from Anne Litt.
