Fandom: Sharon Van Etten on Torres

As part of our Fandom series, we have Sharon Van Etten telling us about one of her favorite new artists.

I got to see Torres’ first show in New York around my birthday, February of last year. She is originally from Georgia but lived in Nashville for the last four years to pursue music.

She was nervous and shy and excited. She wears this cowboy hat that is undeniably a part of her roots. She hit her head on the mic and giggled, tuned her guitar, looked at her bandmates to begin, and then she started shredding and belting out melodies that were almost grunge but still definitely her own.

She’s only 22 years old and released her self titled album and booked her own tour. She is motivated and optimistic and driven and her writing is some of the best writing I’ve heard in a long, long time. I curated a session in Philadelphia just to have an excuse to work with her and help my friends at Weathervane get the word out on their project. Hope you enjoy as much as I did.
