“Seasons (Waiting on You)” — BadBadNotGood Reinterpretation
Future Islands have had an amazing year.
They released the record “Singles” with high hopes and once people got hip to their amazing live performances (in part thanks to Letterman and some stellar shows at SXSW, including our showcase!) they’ve been unstoppable.
“Seasons (Waiting on You)” is arguably their best song yet and hearing this rework from jazz trio BadBadNotGood (who also released an excellent album this year) makes me fall in love with it all over again. They really did it justice with a smooth, soulful interpretation that is well worth your time.

The War on Drugs – Tangled Up in Blue (Bob Dylan cover)
Our public radio comrades over at The Current in Minneapolis hosted a live session with the War on Drugs where they played a cover of Bob Dylan’s “Tangled Up in Blue”.
Given the singer’s history with the city, it was a fitting tribute. And given the fact that the War on Drugs put out one of my favorite albums this year AND this just so happens to be my favorite Dylan song, I had to share it.

“Tell Me I’m the Only One” — Carlos Serrano remix
I feel like Sam Smith’s angelic voice has been the sound of 2014. He’s able to share pain and fragility — and soul — in a way we haven’t seen from a male singer in some time.
He’s a stunner and on this mashup by Carlos Serrano, his soaring choruses from “I’m Not the Only One” are paired with Kanye West verses from “Can’t Tell Me Nothing“.
It’s beautifully orchestrated and one worthy of playing on repeat.
