Big Boi + Menahan Street BandLast month when Outkast announced they would be playing virtually every big festival in the world this summer, speculation immediately turned to the question — will we finally see a new Outkast album this year?

No.

Big BoiOutkast put the kibosh on any hopes of an reunion album this week in an interview with Diddy’s Revolt TV.

If it’s any consolation Big Boi, has been putting up a new free track every week on his Soundcloud page in the run up to the release of his forthcoming Game Of Thrones-inspired mixtape (say whaaaat?).

He’s calling the series Mash-Up Mondaysand this week’s particularly strong entry is a reworking of the track “Tremendous Damage” featuring KCRW favorites, the Menahan Street Band, that he’s calling “Damaged World“.

Temples

Temples’ “Sun Structures” album is one of my favorite albums of the year so far, and if you asked me to pick anybody to remix one of their tracks, The Time And Space Machine would be at the top of that list.

The two groups share a deep seated appreciation of lysergic sounds of the ’60s, so it’s only fitting that they would eventually join forces as they have in this excellent new remix for “Mesmerise“.
