Regional Garland – “Chillin’ Out” (Poolside Edit)

One of the most striking aspects of Poolside’s debut album, “Pacific Standard Time”, was how fully formed their whole “poolside” ethos was right from the start.

Everything fit a very specific vibe – from the name, their laid back sound, and even down to where they recorded the album (in a studio next to a pool, natch).

“Chillin’ Out” isn’t an original Poolside song but it certainly fits the profile.

The track was originally recorded by an artist from Flint, Michigan named Regional Garland (credited here as Reginald Garland), whose work was anthologized a couple years ago by the local reissue label Now-Again Records.

For the edit, Poolside gives the original lo-fi disco track a little extra thump and the results are very…Poolside. DOWNLOAD HERE

This edit of “Chillin’ Out” was a part of Poolside’s excellent “Stir It Up” mixtape, which was released last month and can be streamed/downloaded here.

James Supercave – “Old Robot” (Daniel T. Remix)

Sticking with the daytime disco vibe, we have a really nice remix of James Supercave’s “Old Robot” by Daniel T., who is also one half of the local duo, Cosmic Kids.

Daniel T. brings out the tropical disco vibes on the remix, building on the melody of the original and reinforcing it with extra percussion, giving the track an almost Afro-Caribbean feel.

The original version of “Old Robot” on James Supercave’s “The Afternoon“ EP is also well worth checking out; they’re definitely a local band to keep an eye on in the coming months.
