As a member of the bands Grizzly Bear and Department of Eagles, Daniel Rossen wears many hats — singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. Now he’s ready to take it all on in his solo debut.

Two tracks have surfaced from his forthcoming EP, “Silent Hour” (which will be released March 20 via Warp Records); and from what we’ve heard thus far – those familiar with his other work, will be quite pleased.

“Silent Song” instantly resonated with me. It’s a hushed, mostly acoustic jam that takes you on a little Americana slanted stroll. His signature offbeat melodies and harmonies are in tow and it stacks up beautifully amongst all the other projects of his we’ve come to love.

On the Warp site, Rossen explained why he decided to release an EP: “When you spend so much time touring around, you can lose perspective on what you’re trying to do. All the sudden, I had no idea what to do or what to make or anything,” explains Rossen. “These songs were a way for me to figure that out again, getting my legs back.”

It appears that Daniel has once again found his legs. In fact, I would say he’s off to the races (though, it must be tough to run with all those hats on).
