I think it’s safe to say the KCRW music staff has a crush on Hollie Cook. She started her music career by joining a reformed version of all-girl punk band The Slits and we’ve been fully on board since she started releasing her solo work.

She played MBE on a Friday afternoon (full session here), which felt perfect considering there are some serious island vibes — reggae, dub grooves with pop hooks that will get stuck in your head for days. Album standout, “Together” is the empowerment, positivity anthem we need right now: “together we are one, together we are powerful.”

She also gifted us with her cover of The Carpenters’ “Superstar.” When someone suggested she take it on, she wasn’t sure she could sing it — which sounds crazy once you hear how good her version is.
