Juju & Jordash: Artist You Should Know

Jazz musicians from Haifa, Gal Aner and Jordan Czamanski move to Amsterdam and make heavy psychedelic industrial dub with a cosmiche twist.

It sounds like the set-up to some kind of joke.

Not to say the results don’t have a distinct sense of humor, but these dudes are no laughing matter. Under the moniker, Juju & Jordash, Aner and Czamanski are unquestionably a pair of the underground’s most intriguing and inventive dudes.

With a series of diverse releases, most recently on the label Golf Channeland Dekmantel and possibly the trippiest iPad application available, these dudes are at a real creative peak (which seems more like an extended plateau until the next peak.)

Their releases on Golf Channel have ranged from the solemn, atmospheric post-Holocaust reflection “Unleash the Golem Pt.1” to the sleazy club vibes of “Jewsex.” In conjunction with visual artist Paul Skawinski, the duo have created “The Infinite Music Machine,” a combination virtual 60s-esque liquid projection and soundscape generator which is one of the most mesmerizing experiences you can indulge in on the iPad.

But, it’s the duo’s latest full length record and most recent release, Techno Primitivism that finds this duo at their most out there.

Playing with elements of freaky free jazz, throbby dub, Psychic TV-esque noise and krauty motorik rhythms all through the filter of left-field house, the album is unlike anything else you’ll hear all year.

The sound of jazz musicians from Haifa let loose and going gonzo in Amsterdam’s clubland.

Actually, that is pretty funny.
