King Krule began his morning sleepy-eyed, smoking and without saying a single word, yet saying volumes.

It was a rare instance in which the first sounds we heard out of the artist’s mouth were guttural screams — about a half hour before we were set to go live.

This producer was a bit rattled, but also in awe of what was on display. Someone truly himself. Someone completely uncaring about the rules of the world around him. Archy Marshall makes his own rules; and we’re living in HIS world if we want to be a part of it.

It felt slightly dangerous in a way I loved personally and my respect for the artist grew over the course of the morning.

His music defies genres but it felt more like jazz than anything. During the interview with host Chris Douridas he said “I revel in the dark” — something so simple and so telling.

On how his sophomore album “The Ooz” came about: “I was lost a long time. I thought I was useless. I thought I was useless for ages.” On what “The Ooz” means: “It’s an action, it’s a reaction. It pours out of me.”

It’s a session well worth watching.
