recently started spinning Brazilian singer Luísa Maita, whose music embodies the spirit of her native country — sultry and seductive with a samba swing. The first time I heard her track “Alento,” it immediately captured my attention. Her voice is soulful and jazzy and the spirit of São Paulo gives the music a tropical edge that is vibrant and enticing.

Luísa Maita – Alento

Luísa has been surrounded by music since birth. Her father, Amado Maita, a singer whose one debut solo album from the 1970s is a coveted vinyl collector’s item, named all three of his daughters after songs by bossa nova legend Antonio Carlos Jobim. Her debut album “Lero Lero” is out on the Cumbancha label.
