To see the first installment in our year end shout out to local bands, go here.

We Are The World

KCRW DJ Mario Cotto has this to say about them:

“Despite their name, there is nothing remotely Earthly/Earthling/Earthbound about this band. I have no idea how many of them there are, whether they’re male or female, and/or whether they’re even human. I think they’re probably an alien race who’s only Earthly points of reference are Jodoworsky films, The Knife, and Sega Genesis video games. They seem to emerge from their own video footage in these obliquely religious outfits that are all interconnected. During their shows they seem to multiply as they bounce around stage in perfect synchronicity to music that sounds like some pitched up Knife tracks crashing into Atari Teenage Riot tracks. They have a forthcoming 12″ on IAMSOUND in January, “Clay Stones.”

Rainbow Arabia

KCRW DJ Anne Litt is spinning Echo Park’s Rainbow Arabia, a married duo who blend electro-acoustic dance sounds and world music with the youthful energy of punk. A remix of their song “Holiday in Congo” is a particular favorite.

Warpaint

Warpaint just signed to Rough Trade and we expect to see their debut out in early 2010. As KCRW DJ Michael Barnes says, “their sound is just the right kind of moody and they’re oh so photogenic, even without actress Shannyn Sossamon, who used to be their drummer.” They are kicking off a U.S. tour in February with an LA date at the Natural History Museum on February 5.
