Mayer Hawthorne Remixed for Maximum Grooviness

I heard Chris Douridas spin this funky disco remix of Mayer Hawthorne’s “You’ve Got the Makings of a Lover” and I just had to share it. A perfect groove to get your week started. (and you can download it for free!)

The song is originally by The Festivals and was covered by Mayer on his Impressions EP (where he also covered “Mr. Blue Sky”, among other gems)

The remix is by San Francisco trio PillowTalk. (Great name!)

According to their bio, they’re based out of the famous Lower Haight District and fuse “classic R&B, boogie and disco with underground house and techno”. That sounds about right. Listening to another track on their Soundcloud page, “Weekend Girl”, I was totally transported back to my hometown of Miami…roller skating in a cloud of pink strawberry-scented smoke in the late 80’s/early 90’s. (remember this gem?)

The band is hitting the road with a live band in 2012 and I can only imagine it’s a pretty fun show.
