Mikhael Paskalev was an artist I was hearing a lot about heading into SXSW and by the time we left, he was one of Anne Litt’s favorite finds in Austin!

The Norwegian-Bulgarian singer plays something that has been described as “cowboy disco” – catchy pop music with a country twist.

His first single “I Spy” was a hit in Norway, helping him win a national award for Best Unsigned Act in 2012. But it was the video for the song, where he dances in his underwear in an homage to Risky Business, that brought his music to a wide audience.

His video for the followup single, “ Jive Babe”, is also worth watching, with a Tarantino/Twin Peaks-y type vibe.

Keep an eye out for this one!
