There are certain bands that just sound like summer.

Washington, DC-based trio Misun call their music “aquawave” so I guess it’s fitting that they fall in that category.

The group (pronounced ‘me-sun’) – Misun Wojcik, Nacey (production/keys) and William DeVon (guitar) –met while working in different capacities at a restaurant in 2010. They discovered a common musical bond and began writing and recording in Nacey’s bedroom studio on U Street.

When I think of DC, I immediately think punk rock. And this is far from that!

The breezy, poppy, tunes on their debut EP “The Sea” are all guided by Misun’s soulful vocals.

“Darkroom” has a surf rock feel, while “Coffee” is driven by synths and a whistling hook. The best part—they are ALL available as downloads via Soundcloud.

It’s actually a remix that first caught my attention. I heard the Cousin Cole & Nacey edit of “Promise Me” on Anne Litt’s show over the weekend.

(Fans of Alice Russell will recognize the sample from her track “Hurry On Now“)

Their label T&A Records recently released the Misun Summer Blends album – all available as a free download with “beats jacked from Timbaland, Dr. Dre, Jamie XX, Richie Spice, Trick Daddy and a lot more.”

There’s so much to explore with this band and it’s all easily available so go grab it!
