We’re a couple of days removed from our most recent fund drive and you’ve heard many of us say thank you to those who decided that KCRW is worth a financial contribution. But, once again, thank you so much for supporting us and what we do; your support is what sustains us, literally. Now on to some great new music.

Childish Gambino – “This Is America”

There’s no introduction needed for this five-tool entertainer, or this video for that matter. In less than a week it’s already surpassed 75 million views. Donald Glover is back with his first offering – to what some are describing – as Childish Gambino’s last album. For the sake of good music, let’s hope that’s just a rumor. “This Is America” is a raw, shocking, and I’d say, a real indictment of America’s indifference to the lives of Black Americans.

    Wajatta – Casual High Technology

Finally! The long awaited release from comedian Reggie Watts and veteran electronic music producer John Tejada. It’s an unlikely pairing for sure but somehow it works. Every offering from this record has been impressive thus far. They actually stopped by KCRW a couple weeks back and made their live radio debut and premiered many of the songs featured on the album, which is out today. Check out their live session and interview with Jason Bentley on Morning Becomes Eclectic.

The Internet – “Roll (Burbank Funk)”

After taking a break for few solo projects, The Internet is back. “Roll (Burbank Funk)” is a bassline heavy track that features a groove that grabs you and doesn’t let go. It reminds me of early Black Eyed Peas tracks before they went super pop. It’s rare that you see a band whose members pursue and achieve solo success get back together to create a ‘musical voltron.’ I don’t know about you, but that’s one of my all time favorite cartoons so I am beyond excited to hear the rest of this project.
