Music For Your Weekend

As an LA native (born and raised), it has taken some adjustment to deal with this proper winter (one of the first times in my memory). Now that it's mid-March, the weather is warming and it's nice to finally feel like sunny Southern California again. Here are a couple of new releases to help bring in the season.

The Cinematic Orchestra - To Believe

I am such a big, big fan of The Cinematic Orchestra. Their debut Motion was the soundtrack to so many study sessions and sessions of another sort in college :) Well, twenty years later, the British collective is back with their fifth studio album and first in 12 years. To Believe continues in the tradition of fusing jazz with orchestral electronic elements, which has defined their catalogue.

Along with Roots Manuva, the album also features Grey Reverend, Heidi Vogel, Tawaih and KCRW favorite Moses Sumney. Speaking of Moses, check out the visuals for the title track, which he's featured on.

Quantic - Atlantic Oscillations

Will Holland has been making infectious rhythms for over two decades now and this week marks a triumphant return. Atlantic Oscillations is the first release under the moniker Quantic in 5 years and brings together new players and concepts with a dance orientated sound. This release showcases Holland's artistry and rare ability to intertwine the electronic with the orchestral. The release includes a Quantic Dub and Maghreban remix and embodies a disco vibrancy taken directly from sweaty dance nights in Brooklyn's small disco and dance clubs.

Originally from the UK, but now residing in Brooklyn, Holland said, "I've had the chance to see some great DJs and got into the disco edit and some incredible dance songs. NYC summers are great for outdoor parties and I wanted to make something which was long and had a real journey for these kinds of parties." He goes on to say, "it was primarily my wish to make a bad disco tune." With that, take a listen to "Atlantic Oscillations."
