New Hiatus Kaiyote – “By Fire”

There is a lot of great music out there, but very little of it REALLY stands out as unique and different. Enter Hiatus Kaiyote.

KCRW DJs have been championing the Australian band from the start and when they made their triumphant U.S. live radio debut on our airwaves about a year ago, I realized the possibilities for their soul-jazz-funk mashup were endless.

Frontwoman Nai Palm is a force and when we got our hands on the title track from their new EP, I couldn’t wait to share.

The 3-song EP is out today and all of the songs will appear on the band’s sophomore album “Choose Your Weapon“, set for release in March 2015.

The songs were recorded in their home studio in Melbourne and the band are currently touring their native country before making their way to the U.S. early next year.

Editor’s Note: Their album version of their single “Nakamarra”, which featured Q-Tip, was nominated for a Grammy for Best R&B Performance this year! Below is an excellent live version from our studio.
