2017 sure is shaping up to be a great year for shoegaze fans. First we got the first new single from titans of the genre Slowdive since their lovely 1995 album Pygmalion. Now their fellow effects pedal masters Ride have returned with not one but two singles from their forthcoming – Erol Alkan produced record.

Erol Alkan, aside from being a respected DJ and producer in his own right, is also one half of the duo Beyond the Wizards Sleeve. Their debut The Soft Bounce was my favorite record of last year, and Ride have made some of my favorite music of all time. It could go without saying that I’m beyond excited about this collaboration, but I’m saying it anyway.

Of the two tracks, both of which are excellent, I find myself coming back over and over to the second single “Home is a Feeling.” It overwhelms the senses in the best possible way given the grand, lush atmosphere it creates. It’s also incredibly soothing with it’s lyrics about love, home, and the safety that’s possible to be found within a romantic partner. Be prepared to swoon.

Ride’s yet to be titled new album is due out this summer via Wichita Records.
