KCRW DJ Jeremy Sole has been airing exclusive DJ mixes from NOSTALGIA 77, who will also be doing a DJ set tonight, Thursday March 4, at Zanzibar. Check out the setsin our archives, download a track from the artist, and read Jeremy’s thoughts below:

This week, our ears are treated to the sounds of a burgeoning future legend. Benedic Lamdin (aka NOSTALGIA 77) has been a musical force of nature, releasing 10 albums since 2004 as a prolific producer, remixer, DJ, composer and arranger from the UK. Aside from his many remixes and Hip Hop-style beats, NOSTALGIA 77meddles in the fringes of classic Jazz and Funk sounds, and the West African and Ethiopian versions thereof. Winner of 2007’s ‘Jazz Album Of The Year‘ at the Radio One Gilles Peterson Worldwide Awards, Lamdin’s work ranges from moody, mellow and spiritual sounds – to driving, raw and danceable grooves. His funky, soulful cover of White Stripes’ “Seven Nation Army” spread his distinct sound to a wider audience throughout the world. In 2004, LA-based Ubiquity Records licensed his album “The Garden” from UK label TRU THOUGHTS, his musical home throughout his illustrious career.

NOSTALGIA 77 prepared two exclusive 20-minute DJ sets to play on my shows – February 24 and March 3 — mixing a few rare selections from around the world and featuring his original recordings, including his brand new group SKELETONS on his own IMPOSSIBLE ARK record label.
