Pan Caliente Video Premiere: Brownout returns with the funky "Somewhere To Go"

Austin outfit Brownout return with a forthcoming album (featuring members of Grupo Fantasma and Black Pumas) and premiere "Somewhere To Go."

Is it too early in the year to release a major funk heater? Austin’s very own “funk powerhouse” outfit, Brownout, sure don’t think so. With personnel that include members from the GRAMMY award-winning project Grupo Fantasma, as well as GRAMMY-nominated Best New Artist Black Pumas’ co-creator Adrian Quesada, Brownout’s brand-new album Berlin Sessions is poised to continue elevating the band’s already classic catalogue.

A couple years back, Brownout released a phenomenal two-volume tribute to the Black Sabbath catalogue entitled Brown Sabbath. They then followed it up with an album entitled Fear of a Brown Planet —an instrumental tribute & riff to Public Enemy’s iconic album.

Berlin Sessions — a reference to Steve Berlin of Los Lobos who produced the album — will be released on March 6th via Fat Beats Records. On this album you also hear the return of vocalist Alex Marrero, who originally collaborated on the Brown Sabbath albums with Brownout. Today, we have the video premiere of their first single, “Somewhere to Go.”

The music video features a would-be spaceman in a computer generated psychedelic trip, that reminds me of original VR graphics a la the film Lawnmower Man. It’s a trippy throwback with some delectable kaleidoscopic scenes in this spaceman’s journey and fits well against their tapestry of funk.
