Ponderosa’s new album is called “Pool Party” and I find the name a bit misleading considering the entire album is drenched in a dark moody groove –with occasional dream pop flourishes.

Nevertheless, it’s a solid piece of work and I found it was the perfect soundtrack to a lazy Sunday when it was too hot to go outside and I was content doing nothing but laying on my couch. The 10 songs created this lovely musical cocoon I stayed in for two full listens of the album, which came out last month on New West Records.

Here’s the video for the track “Black Hill Smoke”

Ponderosa is a quintet from Atlanta and, based on their debut, I’ve always placed them in the “Southern rock” category but this new album is much more interesting, sonically speaking. Check it out!
