The release of Raury‘s debut album, “Indigo Child“, seems to mostly justify the hype.
The self-produced/self-released album’s 9 songs (plus 4 tracks of Raury getting verbally reamed by his mother) showcase a young artist with a wide range and an eclectic ear.
From folky soul (“Cigarette Song”) to meditative hip hop (“Woodcrest Manor”), to rock (“Chariots Of Fire”), Raury’s sound is defined less by genre pigeonholing than by the spirit and energy he brings to the tracks.
The standout track for me is “God’s Whisper“, a song that manages to feel intimate and epic at the same time.
With a guest spot on SBTRKT‘s hotly anticipated “Wonder Where We Land“ album and forthcoming tracks produced by Danger Mouse, the future is looking pretty bright for Raury.
